Hot Pepper Festival and Street Closure update

PALESTINE, October 23, 2013-- Spring Street will close effective Midnight Sat., Oct. 26, and will remain closed until Sunday morning, Oct. 27, 2013.

The following streets will be closed between Queen Street and Sycamore from 12 a.m. – 10 p.m., Sat., Oct. 26, 2013:

  • West Main Street
  • West Oak Street
  • West Crawford Street

The main information booth for Hot Pepper Festival will be located at the corner of Main and John Streets. This location will provide brochures, information and directions for all events occurring during Hot Pepper Festival.

The Hot Pepper Express parade will begin at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin at the Anderson County Courthouse, proceed down Avenue A, take a right on Main Street, proceed four blocks and take a right on Queen Street, proceed four blocks and take a right on Lacy, and end at the Anderson County Courthouse. Prime viewing will be along Avenue A and at the turn on Queen Street where the floats will slow to make the turn.

Hot Pepper Festival attendees are reminded that per City Code Chapter 14 Article 2, leash laws are in effect. All animals must be restrained and have current vaccination tags. For the safety of our two- and four-legged friends, animal control officers will be monitoring the festival for compliance, and will be available to answer questions regarding the ordinance.

Fri., Oct. 25 is the pre-festival fun in The Hollow at Old Town. Bring a lawn chair and listen to live music from 6 – 8:30 p.m. by Slip-Tumble-Trip, Deirdre Thornell and The Bigsbys. While the music swirls, wood smoke and laughter will fill The Hollow as local BBQ teams compete for BBQ glory.

Hot Pepper Festival will feature three entertainment stages on Sat., Oct. 26, 2013.

The Jalapeno Stage kicks off the family fun at 11 a.m. and will feature the Macho Pepper Eating Contest, Academy of Dance, Dogwood Squares Dancers, Steps of Faith Dance, Rockin’ Rick, and the announcement of the parade winners.

The Habanero Stage adds to the fun with a 10:45 a.m. start. This stage will feature Larry Hooper, Cody Reily Band, Blacktop Mojo and Matt Begly & Bitter Whiskey.

The Chili Pepper Stage begins at 1 p.m. and features Molly and the Ringwalds, Mark Allan Atwood and Brimstone, Westbound 21, Backseat Molly, and Billboard chart toppers JB & the Moonshine Band. KYYK 98.3's afternoon DJ, Alex, will emcee from 6-11 p.m.

The Hot Pepper Festival is a free community-based event that relies on volunteers and sponsors, without their generous donations of time and resources it would not be possible.
