Henderson Co. traffic stop leads to two drug-related arrests

HENDERSON CO., August 15, 2014—On Tuesday, August 12, at approximately 2:56 a.m., Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brian Huckabee, along with Deputy Wayne Nutt, conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation on US Highway 175, at the intersection of Richardson Road, near Athens. Ashley Grooms of Gun Barrel City was identified as the driver and Jerroid Miller as a passenger. Deputy Huckabee conducted a search of the vehicle and located multiple items of narcotic paraphernalia, suspected marijuana, and suspected methamphetamines. During the stop, Miller attempted to dispose of some of the items.

Miller was charged with Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence; Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, penalty group 1, 4-200 grams; and Possession of a Controlled Substance, penalty group 3, less than 28 grams. Grooms was charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, penalty group 1, 4-200 grams; Possession of a Controlled Substance, penalty group 3, less than 28 grams; and Possession of Marijuana.

In the state of Texas, Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, penalty group 1, 4-200 grams, is a First Degree Felony and carries a confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 99 years and a fine not to exceed $10,000.00. Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence is a Third Degree Felony, and carries a confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 10 years and a fine not to exceed $10,000.00. Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 3, less than 28 grams is a Class A Misdemeanor and carries a confinement in jail not to exceed 180 days and a fine not to exceed $2,000.00.

On August 13, Miller and Grooms were arraigned by Henderson County Justice of the Peace Precinct One Randy Daniel. Judge Daniel set Miller’s bail at a total of $22,000.00, and set Groom’s bail at a total of $20,000.00. Miller posted bond on August 13, and was released at that time. Grooms is currently still in custody at the Henderson County Jail.
