PALESTINE, November 20, 2013— Grace Church has purchased the old Meadowbrook Country Club located at 2130 Country Club Road, in Palestine, announced Grace Church Pastor Philip Chamberlin.
Meadowbrook has been inoperative for the past four years. The purchase of the 116 acres was completed by church officials earlier this afternoon.
“This is a great opportunity for us, and the community, and just really the whole city as we come together on this,” said Pastor Chamberlin. “We’re looking to redo the golf course, redo the swimming pool and the tennis courts…and also, in addition to that and in connection to that is the worshiping community, which is the church.”
The church plans to relocate to the property early next year from their current location at 1918 East Murchison.
According to a press release sent out by the church, new plans include:
“A new worship center, a play area for kids, coffee shop, volleyball court as well as developing partnerships with public and private entities for the swimming pool, existing golf course, New driving range, and tennis courts.”
Pastor Chamberlin expressed the church’s wish the new property not be “an exclusive member-only club,” but an “open place for the community.”
“We’re open to everyone. We strive to be the people of the second chance, because God is a second chance God, A place where it’s okay for people to not be okay,” stated Pastor Chamberlin.
Grace Church is a United Methodist congregation and welcomes anyone looking for a church home. Two services are held on Sundays, at 9:00 a.m., and 10:45 a.m.
