Gov. Perry renews proclamation extending drought emergency

AUSTIN, June 17, 2013—On July 5, 2011, Texas Governor Rick Perry issued an Emergency Disaster Proclamation certifying that exceptional drought conditions posed a threat of imminent disaster in specified counties in Texas.

The Proclamation stated record high temperatures and low rainfall resulted in declining reservoir and aquifer levels, which threatened water supplies and delivery systems. The Proclamation also stated prolonged dry conditions continued to increase threat of wildfire, and drought conditions had reached historic levels, continuing to pose imminent threat to public health, property, and the economy.

On June 14, 2013, Governor Perry renewed the Disaster Proclamation and directed all necessary measures, both public and private, be implemented to meet the threat. The Proclamation renewal also suspends all rules and regulations which may inhibit or prevent prompt response to the threat. Suspensions are to remain in effect for the duration of the state of disaster.
