Game Wardens recover Lake Palestine drowning victim

HENDERSON CO., April 23, 2013--On Sunday, April 21, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Game Wardens and officers from Henderson County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Lake Palestine on the report of a possible drowning.

According to eye-witnesses who were on the shore at the time of the incident, they noticed a man and woman, who had previously been fishing from a boat, had somehow entered the water and seemed to be in distress. Both the man and woman were attempting to swim to shore. The witnesses attempted to help the victims, and were able to pull the woman out of the water. The man, who was not wearing a life-jacket, went under the water and did not resurface.

When Game Wardens and Henderson Co. Sheriff’s deputies arrived, witnesses were able to point out the last known location of the victim.  Sonar was used to quickly locate and recover the victim, who was later identified as Fredrick Perkins, age 46, of Tyler.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Capt. Mike Hanson, the case is still under investigation, but appears to be a clear case of drowning at this time.
