Fire Chief speaks on Sanderson Farms construction worker fatality

PALESTINE, January 3, 2014—The construction worker who was killed at the new Sanderson Farms Hatchery in Willow Creek Industrial Park died as a result of injuries sustained in a fall, confirmed Palestine Fire Chief/Fire Marshal Alan Wilcher.

According to Chief Wilcher, a call came in at approximately 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning, in reference to a man who had fallen while working at the site. A fellow worker performed CPR until EMS and the Fire Department responded. The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

The case is still under investigation and the victim’s identity has not been released. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified and is conducting their own investigation. An autopsy has also been ordered.

PALESTINE, January 2, 2014—A construction worker died in an accident at the new Sanderson Farms plant in Willow Creek Industrial Park, confirmed Palestine City Manager Wendy Ellis.

According to reports, the man was killed while working on Tuesday. The cause of the accident is unknown.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending investigation. Palestine Fire Chief/ Fire Marshal Alan Wilcher is in charge of the investigation.
