ANDERSON CO., February 13, 2014— An Anderson County Jail inmate is facing additional felony charges after an incident in which two jailers were injured, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
According to Sheriff Taylor, the incident took place on Feb. 8, at approximately 2:30 a.m., when inmate Crystal Ann Torrez expressed suicidal intentions. In response, jailers followed protocol by attempting to remove Torrez’s property and dress her in a “suicide blanket” to prevent her from causing harm to herself. Torrez then became violent.
During the struggle, one female jailer received a broken wrist. The other jailer was injured when she was kicked in the face.
Torrez, who has been jailed on multiple occasions, was brought in to Anderson County Jail by Palestine PD for numerous charges on Jan. 19. In connection with this incident, Torrez has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, a first degree felony, with a bond of $175,000. She is being held in the Anderson County Jail on a total of $198,350 bond.
