Fall, Winter youth events at library kick off on November 6

PALESTINE, NOVEMBER 3, 2017 -- The remaining two months of 2017 will be packed with several youth events at the Palestine Public Library.

On Monday, Nov. 6, the library will host its first meeting of the Teen Advisory Board, or TAB. The inspiration behind the TAB, Youth Services Librarian Jaime King said, is to encourage teens to get involved with their library and to meet new people.

“Teen Read Week events were such a great success, several of our local teens asked to have more events at the library,” King said. “I informed them that most libraries have a TAB or Teen Advisory Board who plans events and programs and they were all on board to form the group. The great part about TAB is that students will earn community service credit hours needed for college or NHS when they attend the meetings.”

The teens will work with King to give the library input on library projects involving teens. Examples include input on Young Adult collections, leading and creating programming, volunteering at events and influence other teens on how the Palestine Public Library serves the community.

The TAB will meet on the first Monday of each month to talk and have some fun. The Teen Advisory Board is just one of many events taking place at the library. For the holidays, the library is bringing back its popular Christmas Puppet Show and Christmas Tea with Mrs. Claus. Also, the Palestine High School Choir will perform at the library.

The holiday festivities begin on Friday, December 8 at 11:15 a.m. The Palestine High School Choir will delight the patrons with holiday songs.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, the annual Christmas Tea with Mrs. Claus will be at 10 a.m. in the Police Training Room inside the Palestine Mall. Tickets are $10 (cash only) and are avaialble at the library, from November 1 to December 6.  Tickets will not be available at the door.

“We will only be selling 45 tickets and they will go fast,” King said. “We have many fun surprises planned for this tea. Please note anyone who attends the tea will need a ticket as this is not just a children’s event.”

The Christmas Puppet Show from Puppet Wise Productions will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at the Library. The show is made possible through the generous support of the Palestine Library Friends.
