ETMC storage facility destroyed in fire

JACKSONVILLE, January 27, 2014— On Saturday evening, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Jacksonville Fire Department responded to a structure fire on South Bolton Street.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered a 2-story storage building heavily involved in flames. The building, owned by East Texas Medical Center, was being used as a storage facility and contained furniture and other items.

Due to threat of fire, and the presence of smoke, residents of a nearby assisted living facility were temporarily relocated to another nursing home.

According to Jacksonville Fire Chief Paul White, the storage facility and its contents were completely destroyed. There were no utilities at the storage facility, which makes the fire suspicious. The Fire Marshall has performed an on-scene investigation, and investigation into the cause of the fire continues.

Anyone with information about this fire is urged to call the Fire Administration Building at 903-586-7131.
