TYLER, December 9, 2013— Put on your mittens and break out the toboggan. The City of Tyler Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the eighth annual Holiday in the Park and Bazaar on Dec. 13 and 14, at Bergfeld Park. This event includes a “tubing hill”, a snow play area, shopping, entertainment, a kid’s zone featuring pony rides, a bungee jump and rock wall plus more than 85,000 pounds of snow.
The fun begins on Friday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 8 p.m., with “Snow Play” and the Kids Zone in the park.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Bazaar will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and will feature more than 50 vendors displaying a wide variety of gift items for your friends or family, or maybe yourself. The “Snow Play and the Kids Zone” will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., for kids of all ages. Local dance groups will entertain from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Finally, the evening will wrap up with a showing of “12 Dogs for Christmas” in the amphitheater at 6 p.m.
The weekend’s events will also include the exciting and unusual arrival of Santa Scirto around 3:45 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 14. Photo opportunities with Santa will be available between 3:45 and 5:30 p.m. The Holiday in the Park event also invites citizens to bring toys, games and clothing for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree. Gifts are needed for both children and senior adults. A drop off station will be located by the snow hill area and can be brought to the event both Friday, Dec. 13, between 4 and 8 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 14, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
More than 60,000 people have attended the Holiday in the Park event over the last seven years and this year is expected to be bigger and better. Sponsors include KLTV 7, Brookshire’s and Super One Foods, Owen Family Foundation, The Jalapeno Tree, Tyler Lodging Association, Contractors Building Supply, Ted Kamel, and Health Revolution.
“This is a wonderful and fun family event for the City of Tyler,” said Debbie Isham, special events/recreation manager. “It is a chance for everyone in the community to come out and enjoy the park, the snow, the local entertainment and greet neighbors before the holiday.”
Bergfeld Park is located at Broadway and Fourth Street in Tyler, Texas. The snow play, movie and entertainment are free of charge. Concessions and Kid Zone will be available for a fee.
