DPS to increase trooper presence during holiday season

PALESTINE, December 13, 2013—Over the next twenty-one days of the holiday season, an increase of Department of Public Safety officers will be focusing their efforts on DWI patrols in high-risk locations.

“Impaired driving can easily turn a holiday celebration into a really tragic situation,” said DPS Trooper Jean Dark. “Designating a sober driver or finding some sort of alternative transportation is the best thing that people can do – their part – to keep our roads safe and make the holidays safe and memorable for the right reasons.”

According to Trooper Dark, efforts will be stepped up to locate impaired drivers in order to increase road safety for motorists during the holidays. No-refusal will be in effect. This means that a warrant for a blood test may be immediately issued if a driver refuses to submit to a breath or blood specimen.
