TYLER, April 3, 2013--Downtown Tyler will be awash in the arts Saturday, April 6 as the latest ArtWalk is held from 4 to 8 p.m. throughout the downtown area.
More than 20 artists will display their work in various businesses, outdoors on the sidewalk and on the T.B. Butler Plaza. Many types of art and techniques, from acrylics to photography to pottery will be on display and available for purchase. In addition, there will be demonstrations by various artists.
“ArtWalk was created in late 2009, and it has proven to be one of the public’s favorite downtown events,” said Beverly Abell, City of Tyler Main Street Department leader. “Though the event is quarterly, we work to keep it fresh by striving to include new artists, encouraging artists to exhibit new work and to work on projects our visitors can participate in.”
One of the ArtWalk’s newest features will be the reading of original poetry at The Glass Onion. There will also be dance, interactive projects, live music and more.
Abell said a good starting point for visitors is Gallery Main Street at 110 W. Erwin St. There, visitors can pick up an ArtWalk venue map so they do not miss any exhibits.
Simultaneously, Gallery Main Street will open its newest fine art exhibit, “Daydreams and Nightmares,” on Saturday evening.
“This exhibit is innovative and interesting,” Abell said. “We have some ‘out there’ pieces alongside some stunning photography, paintings and more. It is going to be an amazing show to view.”
Daydreams and Nightmares will continue at Gallery Main Street until May 27. The next ArtWalk is scheduled for Saturday, June 22.
Gallery Main Street is managed by the City of Tyler Main Street Department in conjunction with the volunteers of Heart of Tyler and the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition. Admission to the gallery is free.
