Doctor arrested on Terroristic Threat charges after scene at ETMC

JACKSONVILLE, May 9, 2013--A doctor has been arrested following a scene at East Texas Medical center which occurred yesterday.

According to Jacksonville Police Sgt. Jason Price, police received a call concerning an ex-employee who was reportedly blocking the door of the hospital. When officers arrived on scene, they observed Lawrance Cunningham standing in the roadway.

Officers made contact with Cunningham, and he was found to be intoxicated. Cunningham was not armed, but officers did observe a gun inside his vehicle during the course of the on-site investigation.

According to Sgt. Price, Lawrance had been terminated from his physician duties at the hospital the previous day. According to the hospital, Lawrance had made threats against an employee of the hospital and had told hospital administrators if they refused to do anything about the other employee, he would get a gun and take care of it himself.

Lawrance was arrested and arraigned on the charges of Public Intoxication, a Class C Misdemeanor, and Terroristic Threat, a Class B Misdemeanor, which carries a $1,500 bond.

According to Sgt Price, Lawrance had plans to check himself into a volunteer treatment facility upon being released on bond.


An arrest does not mean that the individual or individuals have been convicted of the alleged violation, unless otherwise noted. Individuals are innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
