TYLER, December 26, 2013-- Artists have until 5 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 27, to submit their artwork for possible inclusion in Gallery Main Street’s upcoming “Light/Dark” exhibit, which will be the gallery’s first art show of 2014.
Full details on how to enter the exhibit are available at www.DowntownTylerArts.com. Visitors to the site should click on Gallery Exhibits and look for information on Light/Dark. Entry forms and details are available by clicking on the prospectus link.
All gallery exhibits are created through a juried process. Artists are able to submit digital images of up to three of their works of art to the gallery, along with required forms and fees. The images, stripped of any identifying details, are sent to a panel of professional artists, who score the pieces independently of one another. The top-scoring pieces are selected for inclusion in the exhibit, and the piece with the judges’ top score wins Best in Show.
Entrants will be notified of the results by Jan. 2, and works must be dropped off by Wednesday, Jan. 8. The opening reception for Light/Dark will be Saturday, Jan. 11, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. All gallery receptions, featuring art, music and refreshments, are free and open to the public.
“Gallery Main Street is nearing its fifth anniversary,” said Beverly Abell, department leader for the City of Tyler Main Street Department. “The fine art jury has selected an excellent roster of exhibit themes for 2014 that I think will result in another great year of opportunities for viewing and purchasing excellent locally produced original art.”
Themes for 2014 include: Color and Texture: a Fiber Arts Exhibit, The Architectural Aesthetic, 6x6@110, Diversity, Movements of the Mind and Lyrical.
Gallery Main Street is operated by the City of Tyler Main Street Department in cooperation with the volunteers of Heart of Tyler and the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition.
Those who want more information on the gallery and exhibits should go to www.DowntownTylerArts.com or call 903-593-6905.
