ANDERSON CO., January 31, 2014— The Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties is gearing up for this year’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.
The Walk a Mile is a men’s walk which helps to raise awareness for violence against women. According to coordinator Roger Pharr, the event “gives men a chance to stand up and say we support the women in our community, support what they do every day in our community, and support their right to live a life free of crime.”
This year’s theme is “Team up Against Abuse.” Men are encouraged to form teams and walk together to raise awareness and show support.
Registered Anderson County participants will meet on April 26, at Palestine Regional Medical Center for check-in and breakfast at 9:00 a.m. Participants will then don high-heeled shoes and walk from Palestine Regional Medical Center to the Palestine Mall parking lot. The community is invited to come and show support for the cause and encouragement to the walkers. Those not registered may still wear comfortable shoes and walk along in support.
Registration is $10.00, and participants will be required to purchase their own shoes. For more information, visit MyCrisisCenter.com.
Cherokee County participants will meet at Sadlers Restaurant, 101 S Bonner Street, in Jacksonville, on April 12, at 9:00 a.m.
