VAN ZANDT CO., August 19, 2013— Van Zandt County Crime Stoppers has authorized $1,400 in rewards for tips that led to the recent arrests of six people, four of them on drug-related charges.
The largest single reward, $400, was for a tip about a Canton man selling crack cocaine. He was subsequently arrested and charged with manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance, as well as a parole violation.
Other rewards were approved for tips about:
"This was a good round of rewards for our latest anonymous tip providers," said Andy Flowers, president of Van Zandt County Crime Stoppers. "We are also seeing people now taking advantage of the ability to submit tips online at our website, in addition to calling us at 903-567-STOP (567-7867)."
Van Zandt County Crime Stoppers recently revamped its website, vanzandtcrimestoppers.org, and tipsters can now submit tips online, from mobile devices or computers. There is a special tip submission form at the site that can be filled out and submitted, completely anonymously.
Once the person submits an online tip, he or she gets a special code number. Later, once an arrest has been made and once Van Zandt County Crime Stoppers has approved a reward, the tipster will call the usual telephone number – 903-567-STOP (567-7867) to get the additional reward code information needed to pick up their cash reward at a local bank.
Crime Stoppers gives out cash rewards of up to $1,000 to encourage anonymous tips that lead to the arrest of a criminal offender who has either just committed a crime or is wanted on a warrant. The rewards are financed by criminal court fines and donations. More information about Crime Stoppers is available at vanzandtcrimestoppers.org or on Facebook.
