Cooking Well with Diabetes series to begin May 23

PALESTINE, May 18, 2013-- Cooking Well with Diabetes will be held by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service at the Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living, located at 421 Avenue A, behind Kroger’s.  The first class will be held Thursday, May 23, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Classes will meet weekly for the following three weeks.

Cooking Well with Diabetes is a four-week program where participants will learn:

To prepare meals at home that meet food intake guidelines for blood glucose control;

To plan meals that fit within the prescribed meal plan;

To prepare recipes that are reduced in fat, sugar, sodium and high in fiber;

Food safety techniques.

During each class, several recipes will be prepared, and participants will be able to taste each dish at the conclusion of the class.  Participants who attend all four classes will receive a Cooking Well with Diabetes Tastes of Texas cookbook. 

Please register by May 21, to attend. A fee of $20 per person or $30 per couple must be paid at the time of registration. Cash and checks (made payable to “Program Development Fund”) will be accepted for fees.  Space is limited. To register, please come to the Extension Office on 101 East Oak, in the Old Federal Building.  All registration fees will go toward the purchase of supplies for the program
