LUFKIN, May 2, 2013--Garden of Memories Memorial Park and Gipson Funeral Home will hold a Memorial Day program beginning at 11 a.m., on Monday, May 27, at the cemetery, 5205 South First Street, in Lufkin. The event is free and open to the public.
Memorial Day is a United States holiday in honor of the members of the armed forces who have been killed in war. The Memorial Day program will feature guest speaker Albert J. Charanza, Jr.
An Avenue of Flags will be displayed in the cemetery May 25 through May 27, in honor of our veterans. Families are encouraged to pick up complimentary flags to place on loved ones’ graves beginning Saturday, May 25.
“The annual Memorial Day observance is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women who have served and who have sacrificed,” said David Nichols, general manager of Garden of Memories Memorial Park and Gipson Funeral Home. “We hope the families who join us for the program gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of honoring those men and women who died in war while serving our country as well as for those who have served and are currently serving in the armed forces.”
