UPDATE:The city of Elkhart has discovered the water leak and has crews out working to fix the problem. For the time being the public is asked to conserve water use and abide by the Boil Water Notice until further notice
ELKHART, August 1, 2014--- Due to a major water leak the city is unable to locate, Elkhart officials are asking for the public's help. The water system may need to be shut down if the water leak is not located. The public is asked to check where they are and see if the water is running.
The City of Elkhart is asking residents to curtail the use of water until this leak is found and fixed as the wells are getting low.
Due to the leak, The City of Elkhart is issuing a Public Notice to Boil Water. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the water system City of Elkhart (PWS ID 0010005) to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify residents that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice.
