Child Car Seat Check on March 21

ATHENS, March 16, 2013— There are rear-facing car seats, forward-facing car seats, belt-positioning booster seats and high back booster seats.  All these are critical in keeping a child safe in a vehicle, but they are not the most important factor.  Parents are the most important factor in ensuring that children are securely placed in the proper car seat for the child and the proper car seat for the vehicle.  More than four out of five car seats are used incorrectly.

To have your child’s car seat checked, please plan to come to the Car Seat Check-Up Event on March 21, in the parking lot next to McDonalds, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00p.m.

Certified child passenger safety technicians from surrounding communities will be there to check the car seats.  Parents, grandparents, and caregivers are all encouraged to come.  The only requirement is, that you will need to have the child with you when you arrive.  That will ensure that the best seat will be identified for that particular child.

The Car Seat Check-Up Event is sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Passenger Safety Save a Life Campaign.

For more information on this event, please call Holly Black, County Extension Agent and Certified Child Safety Seat Technician, at 903-723-3735.
