Cherokee Co. Sheriff speaks on drug-related arrests of multiple suspects

CHEROKEE CO., March 14, 2014— On March 11, four of seven individuals indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on February 26, were arrested. The remaining three individuals were already incarcerated in the Cherokee County Jail at the time, and were subsequently served the Federal arrest warrant.

The indictment resulted from a lengthy investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Police Department. The federal indictments are from a federal grand jury sealed 6-count indictment charging the seven individuals with multiple counts of federal drug and firearms violations.

The defendants on the Federal indictment are: Eric Scott Smart; Steven Ray Davis; Michael Wayne Christopher; Jimmy Royce Stafford, aka “Jimmy Loven”; Karl Dwayne Underwood; Jimmie Chance Gullen; and Darren Michael Massey.

In addition, three State level search warrants were served. During the arrest and search warrants, two suspects were arrested on State level charges: Xavier Lang, and Rachel Myers.

A narcotics Search Warrant was also served on a residence in the Pierce’s Chapel community of Cherokee County. Five persons were arrested: Joshua Heard; Heath Willis; Rachelle Still; Ariel Coslett-Starkey; and Latajia Crockett.
