Burglary suspects apprehended by Crockett Police through proactive patrols

CROCKETT, December 18, 2013— On December 12, at approximately 11:53 p.m., officers with the Crockett Police Department were conducting proactive patrols on the northeast side of Crockett, where prior burglaries had been reported in the past several weeks.

Officer Detric Murray drove up on a burglary of a vehicle in progress in the 1000 Block of Monroe Street, and called for additional units to come and assist. Officer Murray exited his vehicle and pursued several suspects into a wooded area. Officer Murray and other officers were able to apprehend one of the burglary suspects and arrested him. This suspect was identified as Jacoriance Johnson, age 18, of Crockett.

Johnson was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle, a Class A Misdemeanor; and Evading Arrest, a Class B Misdemeanor. Two other suspects that were with Johnson were also caught by other patrol officers who quickly responded. Kykeedrian Shanks, age 19, of Crockett, was charged with Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, a Class A Misdemeanor.

A third suspect was later apprehended and he was identified as Lee Turner, age 21, of Crockett. Turner had stolen a 1995 Dodge Pickup earlier in the night from the 900 block of South Fourth Street. The stolen vehicle was the one used by the suspects. This vehicle was recovered near Monroe Street, by police. Turner was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a State Jail Felony; Burglary of a Vehicle, a Class A Misdemeanor; and for Evading Arrest, a Class B Misdemeanor.

“I would like to commend Officer Detric Murray for his proactive patrols and the other officers that assisted in apprehending the three burglary suspects,” said Police Chief Buddy Cross.
