TYLER, January 22, 2014—UPDATE: A man was stabbed during an argument Monday night, at a residence on West Lakeshore in Smith County.
Around 7:00 p.m., a Smith County Deputy was dispatched to a disturbance at the residence. The Deputy responding to the call determined that Jermaine Lamar Benson, age 29, had arrived home and was allegedly intoxicated when a verbal altercation began between Benson and his wife. The altercation turned violent when Benson allegedly began assaulting his wife.
Two maintenance men, who were at the residence working on the heating system, tried to intervene to protect the woman. Benson then allegedly attacked both of the men. One of the men, in what appears to be self-defense, stabbed Benson to stop the attacks.
Benson was taken to a local hospital for treatment and surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.
The investigation is still underway and no additional information will be released pending its outcome.
