Attack at Good Shepherd Medical Center leaves one dead, four injured

LONGVIEW, November 27, 2013--A longtime employee of Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview was killed, and four others injured following an attack which occurred a little before 7:00 a.m., on Tuesday.

Surgical nurse Gail Sandidge, an employee of the hospital since 1978, was stabbed when a man went on a rampage in the Ambulatory Surgery Center. The suspect, 22 year-old Kyron Rashawn Templeton, was taken into custody minutes after he fatally wounded Sandidge and injured four others. One male victim sustained life threatening injuries, and three visitors to the hospital sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Sandidge died at approximately 9:00 a.m., as a result of her injuries.

According to Longview Police PIO Kristie Brian, Templeton’s mother is a patient at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Witnesses reported Templeton was running around with a knife yelling, “You are not going to kill my mother.”

Brian says witnesses are being interviewed, and there is currently no known motive.

Templeton was arraigned Tuesday afternoon, one count of Murder, and four counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. His bond has been set at $2.6 million.
