Athens Splashpad nearing completion

ATHENS, July 6, 2013—The Splashpad, located at the Athens Kiwanis Park, will be a free, safe, unstructured water play and socialization area which will increase physical and aerobic exercise. On March 27, 2013, representatives from the Athens Kiwanis Club, Athens Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Athens held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Splashpad site.

Now, according to fundraiser Kim Hodges, the site is reaching completion. Hodges says only $12,000 is needed in order for the site to be fully funded, and construction is scheduled to be completed in two weeks. “Two weeks is not far off, and hopefully it will be completed in time so the kids can still have time to enjoy it before they have to go back to school In the fall,” says Hodges.

Those wishing to make a last-minute donation may do so by contacting Kim Hodges at 903-676-1923.

Hodges spoke with KYYK’s Gary Richards about the project. Click below to hear interview.
