AT & T donates $5,000 for Smithsonian exhibit to be created, housed by Discovery Science Place

TYLER, September 13, 2013-- Discovery Science Place has been selected as a partner for the Smithsonian through the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). AT & T presented a grant to Discovery Science Place launching the partnership with a special exhibit called “Green Revolution.”

“Working with the Smithsonian is an honor,” says Discovery Science Place CEO Phil Lindsey. “But it is only part of the equation for bringing high quality exhibits and experiences to east Texas. The other part is funding, and we cannot do it without committed business partners like AT & T. We are very grateful.”

AT & T has a long commitment to educational excellence in the communities in which it operates. “When I was growing up in Tyler, we didn’t have anything like Discovery Science Place,” says Candice Gast, Director of External Affairs for AT & T. “I am thrilled to help bring a little bit of the world-renowned Smithsonian to Smith County” says Gast.

Green Revolution, which is expected to open in January, is a fully digital exhibition that gives Discovery Science Place the power to build (and control) the "eco-zibit." Smithsonian institute provides design files for exhibition panels and interactives, and Discovery Science Place will take those blueprints to build the presentation with reused or repurposed materials. Green Revolution is a multi-platform initiative that focuses on several major themes: waste, energy, green pioneers, gardening and composting, green construction, and our carbon footprint.

Multiple hands-on learning stations give this exhibition a green light for families and school groups. But, it has something for everyone—as compelling for kids as for those who have a more earnest environmental message to convey.
