TYLER, April 20, 2013-- Apache Belle Gold, the alumni group of the Tyler Junior College Apache Belles, has established a Greater Houston Chapter. The group will hold its official kickoff with a gathering 2 p.m., Sunday, April 28, at the Solea Café located at 1500 Shepherd Dr., in Houston.
“All former Apache Belles living in the greater Houston area are invited to attend,” said Ruth Flynn, TJC interim director of alumni affairs. Flynn is also the former director of the Apache Belles.
TJC President Dr. Mike Metke will host the kickoff event, held in conjunction with the TJC Alumni Association.
The purpose of the Greater Houston Chapter is to reflect the purposes of the Tyler Junior College Alumni Association and the Apache Belle Gold, which is to unite, inform and involve Apache Belle Gold alumni and friends regionally for the purpose of promoting, protecting and preserving the Tyler Junior College Apache Belle organization.
This marks the 65th anniversary year of the Apache Belles, TJC’s high-kicking, precision dance team that began in 1947.
The Apache Belles are goodwill ambassadors for Tyler Junior College, having performed for many U.S. presidents and dignitaries. They have been featured in numerous NBA and NFL halftimes, including two Super Bowl halftime appearances.
In March, the Apache Belles and Apache Band traveled to Japan, where they performed for U.S. military personnel stationed overseas and in Yachiyo City, which is one Tyler’s Sister Cities.
All former Apache Belles are welcome to attend the Houston event, which will include complimentary appetizers and beverages.
To RSVP, please contact the TJC alumni office at firstname.lastname@example.org, 903-510-2588 or at http://www.tjc.edu/HoustonBelleGold.
