Anderson Co. Sheriff's Office acquires MRAP through government program

ANDERSON CO., March 7, 2014--Thanks to the Texas 1033 Military Surplus Property Program, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is now in possession of a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle (MRAP).

The 1033 Program allows the Secretary of Defense to transfer excess Department of Defense (DoD) personal property to Federal, state, and local Law Enforcement Agencies.

“This is a very well armored vehicle that will come in handy if we ever have any serious situations such as barricaded subjects, firing upon people, etc.,” said Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor. “It will keep my officers safe, and we will be able to respond to just about anything involving somebody with a weapon.”

KYYK’s Gary Richards spoke with Sheriff Taylor about the acquisition. Click below for more.
