TYLER, November 15, 2013— The Tyler Public Library’s Teen Advisory Council invites area youth to attend the “Hunger For Hunger” event at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Library’s Taylor Auditorium.
Youth ages 12 to 18 are invited to watch the movie based on the first book in the Hunger Games series on the Library’s big screen. Admission is free.
Everyone who attends is asked to bring nonperishable food items or gently loved books to donate to the East Texas Food Bank and the Salvation Army. For each nonperishable food item donated, attendees will receive one ticket; for each gently loved book donated attendees will receive three tickets. The tickets can be exchanged for concession stand items during the movie. Concession items range in price from one to three tickets and are sponsored by Chick-fil-A, Tyler Beverages, Great American Cookies and the Friends of the Tyler Public Library.
“We are giving teens a chance to see a great movie, right before the second film is released in theaters, in addition to allowing them to help those who hunger for food or knowledge,” says Youth Services Librarian Linda Gray. “This is the first big event presented by our Teen Advisory Council, and we feel like it is one that shouldn’t be missed.”
Marieliza Martinez, member of the TAC, says, “I like knowing that we are doing good deeds for our community while spending time with my friends.”
The Teen Advisory Council is open to youth ages 12 to 18 and meets the first Saturday of every month at 1 p.m., in the Library Auditorium. Many opportunities are available for members to earn volunteer hours.
The Tyler Public Library is located at 201 S. College Ave. in Downtown Tyler. For more information about this and other Library events go to www.TylerLibrary.com or call 903-593-7323.
