(MOSCOW) -- Amid a wave of new media restrictions in Russia comes word that social media may be next.
Could the Kremlin block Twitter? The deputy head of Russia's media regulator told local newspaper Izvestia on Friday that it's "practically inevitable."
Maxim Ksenzov warned Russia could block all foreign social media with "little risk" if they're believed to pose a risk to Russian society. But he reserved special criticism for Twitter.
Unlike Google and Facebook, Ksenzov said Twitter fails to heed Russian demands to remove certain content that's deemed extremist. Critics, however, say those restrictions are used to control opposition.
Ksenzov also accused Twitter of being a U.S. political tool.
