(JERUSALEM) -- The State Department is concerned about the possible kidnapping of three Jewish teens in the West Bank, one of whom is reportedly American, spokesperson Marie Harf said Friday.
While Harf could not confirm the teen’s citizenship, she did say Secretary of State John Kerry met with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni while in London and also spoke to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas about the issue.
“We are working with the government of Israel and with the Palestinian Authority to try to ensure the situation is resolved quickly and that the three teenagers are safely reunited with their families,” she said.
Harf also said she was sure the U.S. ambassador to Israel had been informed about the alleged kidnapping and the possibility that one of the teens was an American. However, she would not comment on statements from the Israeli government that it holds the Palestinian Authority accountable for the teenagers’ well-being.
The teens vanished Friday, and Israeli Defense Forces have said they believe they were building roadblocks between Israel and Gaza.
