(NEW YORK) -- After Uruguay defeated Italy 1-0 Tuesday at the World Cup, former boxer Evander Holyfield -- no stranger to being bitten himself -- tweeted about Uruguayan player Luis Suarez appearing to bite an opponent.
I guess any part of the body is up for eating.— Evander Holyfield (@holyfield) June 24, 2014
Holyfield's ear was famously bitten on June 28, 1997 by boxer Mike Tyson, who was then disqualified in the heavyweight championship rematch in Las Vegas.
After Suarez competed for the ball with Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in the 80th minute, both players fell to the ground. Chiellini rose up quickly while pulling down his jersey, trying to show the referees what he believed to be a bite mark.
It is unclear if Suarez will be penalized for what appears to be the third bite in his professional career.
The Internet exploded with comments and jokes about Suarez's apparent bite.
Holyfield even re-tweeted the following tweet from a fan:
And now somewhere, Evander Holyfield is watching the rest of today's World Cup action in an undisclosed location.... #WorldCup2014— Ryan McNaughton (@RyanInNiles) June 24, 2014
