(TORONTO) -- Twins outfielder Josh Willingham blasted a two-run home run as Minnesota (31-33) tamed the Toronto Blue Jays (39-28) 7-2 on Wednesday.
With two outs and a runner on first, Willingham took a 1-2 pitch from Blue Jays starting pitcher Marcus Stroman (3-1) and sent it over the left-field wall to give the Twins a quick 2-0 lead in the first. Stroman finished the day allowing three earned runs on nine hits in six innings of work.
Twins starter Phil Hughes (7-2) baffled the Blue Jays hitters, tossing seven scoreless innings. It’s his first win at Rogers Centre since July 17, 2011, when he was a member of the New York Yankees.
Minnesota’s newly signed designated hitter Kendrys Morales had a banner day, going 3-5 with a run and three RBIs.
