Wainwright felt soreness after pitching seven shutout innings in Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay. The Cardinals were worried Wainwright may have had damage to the elbow ligament that was replaced when he had Tommy John Surgery in 2011, but the MRI showed no structural damage.

The team is comparing the discomfort to something similar to tennis elbow. It has not been determined if Wainwright will make his scheduled start on Monday.

"We're going to wait and see how everything goes," Cardinals skipper Mike Matheny said. "We're going to take some more notes and listen to the doctors. I think it was the right medical move to get him home as quick as we could to make sure there wasn't anything more going on than what we thought."

The two-time All-Star has pitched 100 1/3 innings this season, compiling a 9-3 record with a 2.15 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 21 walks and 91 strikeouts.
