Robbie Rogers/MLB Photos via Getty Images(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) -- Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb, who has been on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique since April 13, threw a simulated game Friday.

The 26-year-old right-hander threw 49 pitches in three innings with no problems and is scheduled to throw 60 pitches in another simulated game Monday.

"This is huge because I'm probably going to have one or two more of these (simulated games), then a regular game and we'll go from there," Cobb said. "It's as telling a situation as we can put ourselves into to this point. ... Happy with it right now, hopefully tomorrow I'll be even happier that nothing has gone wrong."

Cobb had pitched well before landing on the DL. He made three starts, pitching 19 innings, with an 1.89 ERA, 0.895 WHIP, five walks and 14 strikeouts.
