Patriots Trade for Packers DL Jerel Worthy

Wed, 13 Aug 2014 10:29:00 +0000

(NEW YORK) -- The New England Patriots acquired defensive lineman Jerel Worthy from the Green Bay Packers according to Worthy's agent.

"Pending physical @packers DT @I_AM_Worthy99 traded to @Patriots! Will help Pats D-line right away," Worthy's agent Chafie Fields tweeted Tuesday.

Worthy is dealing with a lower back injury that caused him to fail his first physical when training camp started.

ESPN reports, the Patriots will send a future draft to the Packers, but only if Worthy makes the team.

The 24-year-old Worthy was the 51st overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Packers.

Worthy has struggled since starting his NFL career. In 2012, he tore his ACL, which required surgery to repair. That surgery caused him to miss the beginning of the 2013 season, a season he only played two games in.

The Michigan State alumni has played in 16 games during his career, tallying 11 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble.
