(NEW YORK) -- The New York Knicks introduced Derek Fisher as their new head coach at a news conference on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old Fisher played for Knicks president of basketball operations Phil Jackson for parts of nine seasons, winning five NBA championships.
“For Phil and the history we have together,” Fisher said, “to have this opportunity now to work together again is something that is extremely exciting and I look forward to it in a very special way.”
Yahoo! Sports reported on Monday that Fisher and Knicks were in the process of finalizing a five-year, $25 million contract.
The Knicks haven’t won the NBA championship since the 1972-73 season, when they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals.
