Wed, 20 Aug 2014 10:44:00 +0000

Lisa Blumenfeld/Getty Images (NEW YORK) -- NBA referee Dick Bavetta officially retired on Tuesday.

Bavetta began his NBA officiating career on Dec. 2, 1975 and hasn't missed an assigned game since. He finishes his career having refereed in a record 2,635 consecutive regular season games.

The 74-year-old Bavetta also worked three NBA All-Star games, the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona and 27 NBA Finals games.

"On behalf of myself and the entire Bavetta family, I would like to thank the NBA family and the National Basketball Referee Association for allowing me the honor and the privilege of representing them for 39 wonderful years," Bavetta said.

"I am most proud of never having missed an assigned game, be it exhibition, regular season, or playoffs, throughout my entire career. It really has been a great run."
