(NEW YORK) -- After a breakout 2013 campaign that was cut short because of Tommy John Surgery, New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey will likely not pitch during the 2014 season.
The Cy Young candidate expected to come back late this season, but he realizes it likely won't happen.
"I’m always going to be on board with what they have to say," Harvey said. "I can only do so much, and speak my two cents. As a competitor, I’m always going to want to get out there, but I can’t write myself out there and set up my own program, so whatever they have set up is obviously the way we’re going to go."
Harvey made 26 starts for the Mets last season and emerged as one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. He wound up going 12-10 with a 2.39 ERA. He also struck out 191 batters in 178.1 innings pitched.
