Kyle Larson Wins Pole for Pocono

Jerry Markland/Getty Images Sport(LONG POND, Pa.) -- Kyle Larson set a track record of 183.438 mph and took home the pole at Pocono Raceway for Sunday's Sprint Cup race.

Larson is still seeking his first Sprint Cup victory of his career and is hoping that it comes this weekend.

"I really think a win is coming soon, maybe before the Chase starts," the 22-year-old rookie said on Friday.

"I knew we had a shot at the pole after the second round," Larson continued. "I was nervous and I hit all three corners about as good as I could, so I was really excited about that."

Joey Logano followed Larson on the front row.  Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, and last weekend's winner, Jeff Gordon rounded out the top five.

"We push them to be better the first round," Logano said. "They push us to be better as we go into the third round. I'm getting better. We're able to see what we do differently, which helps us because one is good in one area and one is good in the other, so we can see both of that."

Larson took home his first checkered flag in the Nationwide Series back in March.
