(NEW YORK) -- Joel Embiid, former Kansas star and projected No. 1 pick of next week's NBA Draft, suffered a right foot injury and will undergo surgery on Friday.
"Joel Embiid suffered a stress fracture to the navicular bone in his right foot," his agent Arn Tellem said Thursday. "He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow. Joel will be unable to participate in any additional workouts, and will not attend the draft in New York. We will have no further comment until after the surgery."
Embiid averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks this past season, but missed the Big 12 and NCAA tournament with a back injury.
Embiid's 72 blocks were a freshman record for Kansas as the 7'0" center was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have the first pick on June 26.
