Thu, 21 Aug 2014 01:33:00 +0000

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(CLEVELAND) -- Cleveland Indians first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher underwent surgery on both his knees Wednesday and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Swisher had the operation after getting a second opinion from Dr. Neil Elattrache in Los Angeles, who confirmed that the 33-year-old has chronic discomfort in both knees as a result of wear and tear.

Swisher is expected fully recover after 8 to 10 weeks of rehabilitation.

In 97 games this season with the Indians, Swisher was batting .208 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs. He has hit 239 homers across 11 big league seasons with the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics and the Indians.
