(NEW YORK) -- It's been a tough season for San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt. His latest injury will land him on the disabled list as the team is holing him out due to a concussion he suffered on Saturday.
Belt suffered the injury when he was struck by a ball in the face while fielding during batting practice . Tests Sunday confirmed the concussion, manager Bruce Bochy said.
It’s not clear yet whether that will be the 15-day disabled list, or the new 7-day disabled list that is specifically designed for players displaying concussion symptoms.
Belt was off to a scorching start to the season, finally living up to the expectations many had for him that made him one of hte top hitting prospects in the organization.
Belt missed over a month earlier in the season with a broken thumb, and his concussion is just the latest setback for him.
Still just 26, Belt is hitting .242 with 10 home runs and 23 RBIs in 46 games played.
Infielder Adam Duvall will likely be recalled from Triple-A Fresno to take Belt's place on the roster.
