(NEW YORK) -- The NFL has suspended Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker four games for using amphetamines, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
According to ESPN, Welker tested positive in a sample given shortly after the Kentucky Derby. ESPN also reports Welker claims the test was tainted and he will appeal the decision.
The 33-year-old returned to the practice field Monday after suffering the third concussion of his career during the team's preseason game against Houston on Nov. 17.
Welker caught 73 passes and a career high 10 touchdowns for Denver last season.
The five-time Pro Bowler has played in 154 career regular season games catching 841 passes for 9.358 yards and 48 touchdowns.
