(FORTALEZA, Brazil) -- Uruguay scored first but by the end of the match it was Costa Rica walking off the pitch with a 3-1 victory Saturday, in both teams first game of Group D play in the World Cup.
Uruguay played without star striker Luis Suarez, who is dealing with a knee injury. The 2010 Golden Ball winner Diego Forlan, 35, took Suarez's place.
Things looked alright for Uruguay at first when it scored on an Edinson Cavani penalty kick in the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The game stayed that way until the second half when Costa Rica's Joel Campbell and Oscar Duarte scored less than three minutes apart.
Sub Marco Urena added a late goal in the 84th minute to end any hope of a Uruguayan comeback.
