(NEW YORK) - The NFL suspended Kansas City Chiefs' Rokevious Watkins for the first four games of the 2014 season for a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. The reserve offensive lineman will not receive pay during his suspension.
Watkins will be allowed to partake in training camp and preseason games with the suspension beginning on Sept. 7 when the Chiefs open the year at home against Tennessee. Watkins will also miss games against Denver (9/14), Miami (9/21), and New England (9/29). He is eligible to return following the Monday night game against the Patriots.
After playing three games last season, starting one for Kansas City, Watkins was competing for a backup role with the Chiefs. Three offensive lineman have been signed away as free agents in the offseason.
