Brazil Coach Resigns After Unmet Expectations

Tue, 15 Jul 2014 06:50:00 +0000

Michael Dodge/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Brazil head coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, resigned Monday, after leading the World Cup host country to a fourth place finish.

To some nations, fourth place would sound good, but not when you are Brazil and hadn't lost a competitive match at home since 1975.

Scolari coached Brazil to its last World Cup title in 2002, but then resigned. He retook the helm in 2012, and led the country to the 2013 Confederations Cup title.

Brazil did well until the semifinal, when it lost to Germany 7-1. The Brazilians followed that up with a 3-0 loss to the Netherlands in the third place game.

Scolari's entire staff also resigned.
