Andy Lyons/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- In a move that could prove to be beneficial to both sides, the Buffalo Bills have traded wide receiver Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2015.

Johnson had spent his entire six-year career with the Bills and was very productive for the team considering he was a seventh-round pick back in 2008.

He had three-straight 1,000 yard receiving seasons from 2010-2012, but was limited to 52 catches for 597 yards in 12 games.

"Stevie was a great contributor during his career with our organization," Bills general manager Doug Whaley said in a statement. "Today's decision was not an easy one to make, especially involving a player like Stevie, who leaves everything he has on the field and is an emotional leader in the locker room."

The Bills were willing to let go Johnson because of the team's moves made during the first round of the draft on Thursday. The team traded multiple draft picks to move up to draft former Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins.
