(WASHINGTON) -- From the Veterans Administration scandal to India’s election of a prime minister with a controversial past, President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden had a lot of issues to deal with this week. But the duo took a breather from all that on Friday, making a short excursion to Shake Shack for lunch, a few blocks from the White House.
Obama and Biden sat with four workers from a neighborhood construction project at 1st St. NE in Washington, D.C., that will be completed this week -- a $9.1 million project that included $6.9 million in federal aid, according to the White House.
In 2011, Michelle Obama visited the same Shake Shack, reportedly ordering a 1,700-calorie meal that generated some criticism, given her push for healthier eating, and subsequent defenses of the first lady from nutrition experts.
Just a few months after President Obama’s inauguration, in May 2009, the president and VP went on a similar jaunt to Ray’s Hell Burger in Arlington, Virginia.
