(WASHINGTON) -- Dozens of Republican lawmakers urged Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to create a select committee on Benghazi, voicing their plea in a new letter Thursday.
“Congressional oversight is crucial to understanding what happened before, during, and after the attacks, so we can be sure we do everything in our power to prevent future attacks,” the 37 senators wrote.
The Republicans referenced a recent decision by Speaker of the House John Boehner, which formed a similar panel to investigate the 2012 Libya attack that claimed the lives of four Americans.
"...We ask you to reconsider your decision not to create a similar committee in the Senate,” the letter reads. “This approach would bridge jurisdictional gaps and allow us to better understand what happened. The American people, and especially the families of the fallen, deserve to know more.”
